"Interesting"

I got called out today for saying "Interesting" about something that wasn't necessarily Interesting. These two guys that I live with were telling me about a great Falafel restaurant in Greenwich village. While they were talking about it, I sort of spaced out for a couple seconds because I really wasn't that interested in what they were saying and when they were done talking, all I could say was "Huh, Interesting." One of the guys completely called me out and said, "Well it's not interesting. Interesting is used to describe something that is out of the ordinary or something that has never been seen before." The other guy agreed. He said, "Yeah, I find that "Interesting" is something that people say when they aren't really committed to a conversation or aren't really paying attention." And you know what, these guys were totally right. I didn't really care about the Falafel restaurant they were telling me about and I actually find myself doing that a lot and when they were done making me feel like an asshole all I could say was, "Thats interesting."
